The 1990 Clos de la Roche Cuvee Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is a curious release. I have to admit that I just do not get along with the aromatics, which are quite bretty and almost Rhone-like. That brettanomyces transfers across onto the palate and detracts from the freshness. A bit of hardness on the mid-palate with sour cherry, bitter orange and some dryness toward the finish. Tasted at Ponsot’s 150th anniversary vertical at the Domaine.
