Vinous 89-92
(from south-facing vines on shallow soil, planted in 1928; 70% vendange entier Good ruby-red. Superripe, soil-driven nose dominated by smoky, flinty minerality. Creamy-rich and very ripe but not overly sweet on the palate. A big, strong, somewhat warmer style of wine, quite different in style from the last few samples, and not yet showing the aromatic complexity of the Rouges du Dessus. Tremblay uses Tron c ais oak here, which contributes a vanilla quality. Finishes classically dry and long, with mouthdusting tannins.
Robert Parker 90
The 2009 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts, which had been opened that morning by Cecile, offers ripe red and blackberry fruit with kirsch, leather and dried flowers on the nose that gives away a bit of warmth. The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit on the opening, Moroccan spice, white pepper and sage, sporting impressive depth on the finish. It seems ready to drink now, a decent Les Beaux Monts, even if it was completely surpassed by a 2005 Chapelle-Chambertin from Cecile later that day.
Anticipated maturity: 2016-2022
