Weisstorkel, one of the oldest sites of Malans, is located at the western exit of the commune in the direction of Jenins. It is largely walled, and the soil was formed by the bedload of the allrufi. The rather heavy soil is characterized by dark limestone with clay slate and a high clay content. The warm and windy exposure in combination with this soil gave an intensely fruity but yet pure and spicy 2019 Weisstorkel Blauburgunder that was fermented with 40% whole clusters for 24 days. Aged in 40% new barriques, this is a full-bodied, enormously fleshy, elegant and juicy Pinot with remarkable finesse and charm. The wine is fresh, robust and structured, and the oak is perfectly integrated. This Pinot represents a completely new style for this established domaine in Malans that changed ownership and winemaking a few years ago. Bottled in April 2021 and released in January this year. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in Zurich in February 2022.
Anticipated maturity: 2024-2036
